SmartCommunitiesTech is the Italian Technology Cluster dedicated to the “Technologies for the Smart Communities”. It gathers, in a single synergic system, the key Italian actors that address research, technology transfer and industrial innovation in the field of Technologies for Smart Communities.

The Cluster represents a continuously growing network, and currently groups more than 400 partners including companies, research centers and local Public Administrations from eleven Italian regions (Piemonte, Lombardia, Toscana, Veneto, Liguria, Provincia Autonoma di Trento, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Lazio, Puglia, Sicilia).

The cluster was established in 2012 by the Italian Ministry of Research and Education (MIUR). It aims to foster and support the development and implementation of innovative models of social integration, intended to offer solutions to problems of urban and metropolitan scale regarding mobility, security and territorial monitoring, health and well-being, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, education and training, cultural and tourism and governments, in accordance with the European Innovation Agenda and with the final goal of increasing the Italian competitiveness on smart communities.

The overall network of the Cluster has launched so far more than 110 R&D projects with a special focus on user centric approaches and smart cities & communities’ development.
